Celebrated Ghanaian musician and environmental advocate, Okyeame Kwame, has been appointed as the official ambassador for the Enhancing Access to Benefits while Lowering Emissions (ENABLE) project in Ghana. The initiative, backed by the World Bank, Solidaridad, Tropenbos Ghana, the Forestry Commission, and the REDD+ Secretariat, seeks to drive inclusivity in the distribution of benefits from climate finance and emission reduction efforts.

The ENABLE project is designed to complement Ghana’s Emissions Reduction Programme by ensuring that historically marginalized and vulnerable groups—such as women, youth, migrants, and persons living with disabilities—receive fair access to both carbon and non-carbon benefits derived from climate action. This is particularly crucial in major cocoa-producing areas, where forest conservation activities are being implemented under the Ghana Cocoa Forest REDD+ Programme.

Implementation of the project is led by Solidaridad and Tropenbos Ghana, working across six Hotspot Intervention Areas (HIAs) identified for their environmental sensitivity and socio-economic vulnerability. Solidaridad will oversee activities in Ahafo-Ano, Sefwi-Wiawso/Bibiani, and Kakum HIAs, while Tropenbos Ghana will focus on Juaboso-Bia, Atiwa, and Asutifi-Asunafo HIAs. The World Bank is providing funding and technical support to ensure effective delivery.

Okyeame Kwame was selected as the ENABLE ambassador in recognition of his consistent engagement in environmental sustainability and climate-related advocacy. Known for blending artistry with activism, he has used his influence and creativity to support public education on issues such as climate change, sustainable land use, and social inclusion. His previous involvement in the Dedicated Grant Mechanism (DGM) project, where he played a key role in raising awareness about forest conservation through music and outreach, positioned him as a natural fit for the ENABLE campaign.

As part of his ambassadorial duties, Okyeame Kwame will compose a theme song and supporting jingles for the ENABLE initiative. These musical contributions will be used to educate and inspire communities, particularly those in rural and forest-dependent regions, about the importance of inclusive participation in climate finance. Beyond music, he will also engage in direct community interactions to foster awareness about benefit-sharing mechanisms and to encourage collective action in addressing climate challenges.

His involvement aims to amplify the voices of people often left out of development conversations, reinforcing the project’s core message: that sustainable development must be participatory and inclusive. By using his platform to shed light on the barriers many face—be they cultural, economic, or social—Okyeame Kwame is expected to help catalyze meaningful change at both the grassroots and national levels.

The ENABLE initiative emphasizes that climate action must go beyond environmental targets to consider equity and justice in how resources and benefits are distributed. For many rural populations, the success of forest conservation and emission reduction efforts is directly tied to their access to livelihood opportunities and support. ENABLE seeks to bridge that gap by creating frameworks that ensure no group is excluded from receiving the rewards of climate progress.

Through strategic partnerships and inclusive planning, the project hopes to not only reduce emissions but also enhance the resilience and well-being of communities on the frontlines of climate change.

Speaking on his new role, Okyeame Kwame expressed pride in joining the initiative: “This is more than just a campaign—it’s a movement to ensure every Ghanaian, regardless of status, has a voice and stake in our environmental future. I’m honored to use my music and platform to support such a vital cause.”

With his passion, influence, and experience in public advocacy, Okyeame Kwame is poised to make a significant impact on the ENABLE project’s goals. His appointment marks a step forward in integrating the creative arts into climate communication and making environmental justice a national conversation.
