George Quaye Endorses Dzifa Gomashie for Tourism Minister Role

George Quaye, Team Lead for ImageBureau, has thrown his support behind actress and politician Abla Dzifa Gomashie, recommending her for the position of Minister of Tourism, Culture, and Creative Arts in President John Mahama’s upcoming government. Speaking on Joy FM’s Showbiz A-Z on January 12, 2025, Quaye discussed Dzifa’s experience and suitability for the role, highlighting her previous tenure as Deputy Minister in the same ministry. According to Quaye, her background makes her the most qualified candidate to handle the responsibilities of the position.
“In a government with limited time, now is not the moment to start from scratch. The tourism sector includes thirteen different agencies, and there are areas where individuals can collaborate effectively to achieve results. If we were to choose a lead today, my vote would go to Abla Dzifa Gomashie,” Quaye stated during the interview with host Kwame Dadzie.
Quaye emphasized the broad scope of the tourism sector and the importance of having a Minister who understands all its complexities. He expressed confidence that Dzifa Gomashie possesses a deeper and more comprehensive knowledge of the sector compared to other potential candidates whose names have been suggested for the role.
He also pointed out that the new Minister must be able to build on the progress made by the previous government in the area of tourism. “You can fault the government of Nana Akufo-Addo for many things, but tourism is certainly not one of them. They did a fantastic job in this area and managed to achieve great things. It would be a shame to let that progress go to waste. We need someone who can take that momentum and push it to the next level,” Quaye remarked.
As the tourism industry waits for the announcement of the new Minister for Tourism, Culture, and Creative Arts, a number of other potential candidates have been discussed. Some of these names include creative entrepreneur Baba Sadiq, musician Rex Omar, actress Abla Dzifa Gomashie, actor John Dumelo, actress Ebi Bright, and former Kumasi Metropolitan Assembly boss Kojo Bonsu. However, Quaye remains firm in his belief that Dzifa Gomashie is the best choice for the role.
In the meantime, President Mahama has already named the first group of ministers for his government. These include Dr. Cassiel Ato Baah Forson, who has been designated as the Minister for Finance, John Abdulai Jinapor, who is set to serve as Minister for Energy, and Dr. Dominic Akuritinga Ayine, who will take on the role of Attorney-General and Minister for Justice.
Abla Dzifa Gomashie, a highly respected figure in both the entertainment and political worlds, has extensive experience in the tourism sector. She previously served as the Deputy Minister of Tourism, Culture, and Creative Arts between 2013 and 2017 during the administration of the National Democratic Congress (NDC). Dzifa was integral in the establishment of the ministry under President John Mahama’s first term. Her tenure as Deputy Minister allowed her to gain valuable insights into the inner workings of the tourism sector, making her a strong candidate for the position of Minister.
Currently, Dzifa Gomashie is serving as the Member of Parliament for the Ketu South Constituency, a role she has held since 2013. She is also a prominent Queen Mother in the Aflao Traditional Area, a testament to her influence and leadership within her community.
In addition to her political and entertainment careers, Dzifa Gomashie is highly accomplished academically. She holds a Master of Philosophy (2005–2008) in African Studies from the University of Ghana. She also earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts with First-Class Honors from the School of Performing Arts at the University of Ghana (2000–2003), as well as a Diploma in Theatre Arts (1994–1998) from the same institution. Her academic background, combined with her extensive experience in both the arts and politics, positions her as a well-rounded candidate for the role of Minister of Tourism, Culture, and Creative Arts.
With her proven leadership skills and deep understanding of the tourism and creative arts sectors, Dzifa Gomashie is seen by many as the ideal choice to continue the successes in tourism achieved by the previous government and to take the sector to new heights.
