Jeremie Frimpong, the Dutch international wing-back of Ghanaian descent, has opened up about the Ghanaian footballers he looked up to as a youngster. Frimpong, who currently plays for Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga, named a few legendary Ghanaian players who inspired him during his formative years in football. Among those he admires are Michael Essien, the late Christian Atsu, and the Ayew brothers, Andre and Jordan.

The 22-year-old also highlighted the 2010 FIFA World Cup as a pivotal moment in his admiration for Ghanaian football. He recalled watching the tournament with great interest, particularly Ghana’s remarkable journey to the quarterfinals, where they faced Uruguay. Frimpong noted how all of the Ghanaian players at the time impressed him deeply, fueling his own desire to excel in football. “The one that really caught my eye was the 2010 World Cup, when Ghana got to the quarterfinals against Uruguay. All the players there really impressed me,” he said.

His connection to Ghanaian football and these iconic figures runs deep, and it continues to serve as a source of motivation as he strives to build on his own accomplishments.

During his time in Ghana, Frimpong not only spent time with his family but also engaged with local talent, participating in a kickabout with the youth of Taking Over FC.
