Musician A Plus Clinches Victory in Gomoa Central Parliamentary Election

Kwame Asare Obeng, popularly known as A Plus, has won the Gomoa Central Parliamentary seat in the Central Region, securing a significant victory over the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP) incumbent Member of Parliament, Naana Eyiah Quansah.
In the final vote tally, A Plus garnered 14,277 votes, while Quansah, who had been the MP, received 11,637 votes. Other candidates in the race collectively amassed 10,112 votes. Despite the fact that official results were still being collated, A Plus celebrated his victory by taking to the streets just hours after the polls closed. His spontaneous celebration took place without waiting for the Electoral Commission’s formal announcement.
The counting and collation of results from constituencies are currently underway across the country. The exercise, taking place at various polling and collation centres, is part of the Electoral Commission’s effort to ensure fairness and transparency during the election process. Both the NPP and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) have held separate press conferences to call on their supporters to remain calm and allow the EC to complete the necessary procedures.
The NPP has encouraged its supporters to act responsibly as they observe the collation and announcement of results, while the NDC has urged its followers to stay vigilant and avoid premature celebrations during the process. This election cycle was marked by significant competition, with 13 presidential candidates and 807 parliamentary contenders.
As the votes continue to be tallied and results declared, A Plus’ victory in Gomoa Central marks a notable shift in the region’s political landscape. His win is seen as a personal achievement after transitioning from a music career to politics. However, the excitement surrounding his victory has sparked debate over the premature celebrations, highlighting the heightened anticipation and tensions that accompany the electoral process in Ghana.
This election also serves as a reminder of the importance of patience and respect for the electoral process as the nation moves towards confirming its leaders for the next term. Both the NPP and NDC continue to advise their supporters to maintain peace while awaiting the official results.
