“NPP Launches Nationwide Assessment of Its Performance in the 2024 Elections”

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has officially launched a nationwide review process to assess its performance in the 2024 elections. The 2024 Election Review Committee will be undertaking an extensive visit to all 276 constituencies across the country, starting today. This initiative, which spans all 16 regions of Ghana, seeks to engage a broad range of stakeholders, including party members, supporters, and key figures within each constituency, in order to conduct a thorough evaluation of the party’s election results.
The committee, which was formed by the NPP’s National Executive Committee in January 2025, aims to investigate the reasons behind the party’s defeat in the 2024 presidential and parliamentary elections. In a statement released by William Yamoah, the Secretary of the Review Committee, regional and constituency executive committees have been asked to coordinate efforts and extend their full support to ensure the success of the review process. Yamoah stressed that the active participation and commitment of local party structures are essential to the overall success of this undertaking.
“Your cooperation and unwavering dedication to this process are vital to its success,” the statement noted, adding that the review is critical to fortifying the party’s future and ensuring its competitiveness in future elections. The committee’s work is seen as a key step toward rebuilding and strengthening the party, learning from past challenges, and enhancing its overall strategy for the upcoming political cycles.
To manage this vast undertaking effectively, the committee has been divided into six teams, with each team assigned to specific regions of the country. This regional approach will allow the review to be conducted in a detailed and systematic manner, focusing on the unique dynamics and challenges faced by each constituency. The committee is being chaired by Prof. Aaron Mike Oquaye, a prominent figure in the NPP, with other notable members contributing their expertise, including Dr. Joseph Agyapong Darmoe, Ambassador Kwaku Domfeh, Prof. Kofi Osei Akuoko, Dr. Felix Yamoah, and Emerita Prof. Yaa Ntiamoa-Baidu. The team also includes other influential figures such as Prof. Samuel Bert, Abdulai Abanga, Seidu Nasigri (a legal practitioner), Eugenia Gifty Kusi (a former Member of Parliament), and F. F. Antoh (a former Vice Chairman of the NPP).
The committee has already begun its work by engaging with a variety of party factions and groups. Recently, the team held meetings with the leadership of TESCON, the NPP’s tertiary student wing, as well as with senior members of the Council of Elders. These initial consultations were aimed at gathering a range of perspectives on the party’s performance and identifying key areas for improvement. The committee also sought input from party officials with expertise in security and intelligence, aiming to gain a holistic understanding of the challenges faced during the 2024 elections.
These consultations are an important part of the process as they provide valuable insights into both the internal and external factors that may have contributed to the party’s defeat. The committee is focused on identifying both strengths and weaknesses, with the goal of formulating actionable strategies to improve the party’s structure, outreach, and overall performance. By involving stakeholders from across the party’s diverse ranks, the review is designed to ensure that all voices are heard, and that the party’s future direction is informed by a broad range of experiences and viewpoints.
As the nationwide review continues, the NPP hopes to use the findings to make data-driven decisions that will better position the party for success in future elections. The committee’s focus on collaboration with regional and constituency leaders highlights the importance of grassroots engagement in shaping the party’s future strategy. Ultimately, the success of this review will be crucial in revitalizing the NPP, ensuring that it can learn from its recent setbacks and emerge as a stronger political force moving forward.
