NUGS Issues One-Week Ultimatum to WAEC for Release of Withheld Results

The National Union of Ghana Students (NUGS) has issued a one-week ultimatum to the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) to release the withheld WASSCE results, urging the council to do so in order to enable students to meet university admission deadlines.
In a statement to the media, NUGS President Daniel Korley Botchwey expressed dissatisfaction with WAEC’s handling of the issue. He warned that should WAEC fail to release the results within the specified time frame, NUGS will mobilize Ghanaian students for a nationwide protest.
Botchwey also criticized WAEC for consistently acting in ways that disregard constitutional principles, resulting in grave injustices for thousands of students over the years. He called on the government to ensure that WAEC undergoes necessary reforms to address these persistent issues and safeguard the rights of students.
Furthermore, Botchwey suggested that if these reforms are not implemented to correct the deep-rooted injustices, the head of WAEC’s Ghana office should be removed. He emphasized that WAEC is accountable to the people of Ghana, and its continued misuse of discretion must be stopped. The NUGS President highlighted that the current situation has led to unnecessary hardships for students and called for swift action to protect their educational opportunities.
With the deadline for university admissions fast approaching, NUGS is urging WAEC to act swiftly and fairly, ensuring that no student’s future is jeopardized due to unnecessary delays in releasing their exam results.
