Oti Regional House of Chiefs Extends Congratulations to President-Elect

The President of the Oti Regional House of Chiefs, Nana Soglo Alloh IV, has expressed heartfelt congratulations to Ghanaians for the peaceful conduct of the 2024 Presidential and Parliamentary elections, which took place on December 7, 2024. He commended the nation for demonstrating a high level of democracy, unity, and commitment to maintaining peace throughout the election process. Nana Soglo Alloh IV also extended his congratulations to the President-elect, John Dramani Mahama, and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) for securing a decisive victory in the polls.
In his statement, Nana Soglo Alloh IV assured the President-elect that the Oti Regional House of Chiefs would offer full support for any policies or programs he implements as part of his leadership. He emphasized that the Oti Regional House of Chiefs stands ready to collaborate with the new administration in addressing the needs of the nation and ensuring the successful implementation of national agendas.
Nana Soglo Alloh IV also took the opportunity to praise the democratic process, highlighting the smoothness and transparency of the elections. He acknowledged that the peaceful conduct of the elections was a collective effort by the citizens of Ghana, and particularly commended the Chiefs and people of the Oti Region for their exemplary conduct during the election period. The region’s calm and orderly approach to the elections served as a model for others and contributed significantly to the peaceful outcome of the process.
Furthermore, Nana Soglo Alloh IV took time to commend Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the outgoing Vice President and Presidential candidate of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), for his swift and gracious concession of defeat after the election results were announced. The President of the Oti Regional House of Chiefs emphasized that Dr. Bawumia’s decision to accept the outcome without any hesitation or incitement of unrest played a vital role in maintaining peace across the country. His actions, Nana Soglo Alloh IV noted, prevented any potential post-election tensions, which could have disrupted the stability of the country.
In a reflection on the peaceful elections, Nana Soglo Alloh IV reiterated the Oti Regional House of Chiefs’ pride in the region’s role in ensuring a tranquil electoral environment. “The Oti Regional House of Chiefs wishes to express its profound appreciation to the Chiefs and people for the peaceful and orderly manner in which they organized their affairs during the just-ended general elections,” he said.
However, while celebrating the peaceful nature of the elections, Nana Soglo Alloh IV also addressed a concerning incident that recently occurred in the region. He strongly condemned the mob attack on three priests from the Jasikan Diocese of the Catholic Church, who had been preparing to embark on a project for the benefit of the country. The attack on the clergy, which was unprovoked, drew widespread condemnation from various quarters, including the President-elect.
Although President-elect Mahama had already condemned the violence, Nana Soglo Alloh IV called on political party leaders to take a more active role in ensuring that their supporters refrain from violent acts, especially as the country approaches the transition of power on January 7, 2025. He appealed to political figures and their followers to demonstrate responsibility and avoid actions that could jeopardize the hard-won peace. “The Regional House of Chiefs calls upon political party leaders to caution their members and sympathizers to desist from any violent acts as we move towards the handover of power,” Nana Soglo Alloh IV stated.
In addition to urging political leaders to be proactive, Nana Soglo Alloh IV called on the police to intensify efforts in investigating the mob attack and ensure that the perpetrators are apprehended and prosecuted. He assured the public that the Oti Regional House of Chiefs would closely monitor the situation, ensuring that justice is served and that those responsible for the crime face the full weight of the law. The Chief emphasized the need for swift action to uphold the rule of law and protect the sanctity of peaceful coexistence within the region.
Nana Soglo Alloh IV’s statement served as a combination of celebration and a call for continued vigilance. While the 2024 elections were a moment of triumph for the country, the President of the Oti Regional House of Chiefs stressed the importance of unity and accountability moving forward. The focus now, he said, should be on ensuring a smooth transition of power, fostering peace, and upholding the values of democracy and justice throughout the nation.
