The Sunyani District Court ‘B’ has granted Police Inspector Agyemang Duah Owusu, aged 42, a GH₵300,000 bail with two sureties in connection with the murder of Francis Frimpong, a passionate supporter of Kumasi Asante Kotoko FC, commonly known as ‘Nana Pooley’. Owusu, who is currently standing trial for his alleged role in the tragic event, was arrested along with other suspects who are also linked to the murder.

The court ordered Owusu to report to the police regularly and submit his passport to the court registry within three days as part of the bail conditions. This decision came as part of the ongoing trial, where Owusu faces serious charges of murder alongside other individuals implicated in the incident.

In addition to Owusu’s bail, the court also reviewed the cases of several other suspects. Among them are Ignatius Baffour-Awuah, the former Minister of Employment and Labour Relations, Joseph Kyeremeh, Elizabeth Akosua Ntiwaa, and Yaa Asantewaa. These individuals have been charged with “abetment to commit crime, to wit murder,” as outlined under Sections 20 (1) and 46 of the Criminal Offenses Act, 1960 (Act 29). While these individuals have been granted the liberty to travel or leave Sunyani without judicial restrictions, they must report to the police once a week. They are scheduled to appear before the court on March 10, 2025, for further proceedings.

However, not all of the suspects in the case were granted bail. Three individuals—Isaac Fosu, Augustine Yeboah, and Yaw Koshy—were denied bail and ordered to remain in police custody. These three men are also facing murder charges and are expected to return to court on March 3, 2025.

The case has brought considerable attention due to the high-profile nature of the incident, particularly as it involved a well-known football supporter. The murder took place on Sunday, February 2, 2025, during a highly anticipated Ghana Premier League match between Nsoatreman FC and Kumasi Asante Kotoko FC. The game, which was part of the 19th matchday of the league, was held at the Nsoatre Professor Amoah Koromansah II stadium, where Nana Pooley, also known as Francis Frimpong, was fatally stabbed.

In addition to the suspects already arrested, the court heard that one more individual, identified only as “Braimer,” is still at large and is wanted in connection with the murder. Authorities are actively searching for this suspect, and the investigation is ongoing.

The murder of Nana Pooley has sparked widespread shock and grief, particularly among Asante Kotoko FC supporters and the broader football community in Ghana. The tragic event occurred after the match between Nsoatreman FC and Kumasi Asante Kotoko FC, a highly charged encounter that has since been marred by violence. The police are continuing their investigation into the circumstances surrounding the incident, and more arrests are expected as the case develops.

As the legal process unfolds, many are watching closely to see how the justice system will handle such a high-profile case. The court’s decisions to grant bail to some suspects while denying it to others highlight the complex nature of the case, and legal experts are closely analyzing the proceedings. For now, the trial continues, and the victims’ families and the public await answers as to the full extent of the involvement of each suspect in the tragic murder of Francis Frimpong.

The case is expected to make headlines in the coming months as it progresses through the legal system. For now, those accused of involvement in the crime must adhere to the court’s strict bail conditions, and the investigation into the missing suspect continues. The murder of Nana Pooley has underscored the need for greater security measures at football matches in Ghana and has heightened awareness of the risks faced by fans in the stadiums.
