President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo has delivered his final New Year message to the nation, reflecting on his presidency, celebrating the progress made during his tenure, and calling for unity and hope as Ghana moves into 2025.

Speaking on the eve of the New Year, President Akufo-Addo expressed immense gratitude for the opportunity to serve as Ghana’s President, describing it as “the greatest honour of my life.” He thanked Ghanaians for their trust and support throughout his administration, emphasizing that together, the country had embarked on a transformative journey. He shared, “Together, we have walked a journey of transformation, and it is a journey I will always cherish.”

The President highlighted several key accomplishments of his time in office, particularly the introduction of the Free Senior High School Policy, which he noted had significantly increased access to education for Ghanaian youth. He also cited improvements in healthcare services, the expansion of the country’s infrastructure, and the revitalization of the agricultural sector. Furthermore, he pointed to strides made in digitalization, which have played a pivotal role in modernizing Ghana’s economy and connecting citizens. These achievements, he explained, were not mere statistics, but real stories of lives changed and futures enhanced.

Acknowledging the challenges faced during his presidency, especially the aftermath of the COVID-19 pandemic, President Akufo-Addo praised the resilience of the Ghanaian people. He admitted that the road had not always been smooth, with many moments of difficulty and sacrifice, but affirmed that the “indomitable Ghanaian spirit” had carried the nation through even the toughest times.

As he looked ahead to the future, President Akufo-Addo encouraged the people of Ghana to remain hopeful and embrace new dreams. He specifically addressed the youth, describing them as “the heartbeat of our future.” He urged them to “dream big, work hard, and know that the future is yours to shape.” The President reiterated his confidence in the potential of Ghana’s young people to build a brighter future for themselves and for the nation as a whole.

In his address, President Akufo-Addo also took the opportunity to reflect on Ghana’s democratic journey, highlighting the successful conduct of peaceful elections. This, he emphasized, reaffirms Ghana’s status as a beacon of democracy in Africa. He congratulated President-elect John Dramani Mahama and the newly elected Members of Parliament, stressing the importance of continuing to uphold peace, democracy, and respect for the rule of law. “The pursuit of power should never be synonymous with violence. It must always reflect a solemn commitment to serve the people,” he asserted.

As his presidency draws to a close, President Akufo-Addo expressed unwavering optimism about Ghana’s future. “Ghana is destined for greatness, and I believe in the strength of her people to achieve it,” he said. He reminded the nation that the foundation built over the past eight years, through the hard work of all Ghanaians, would serve as a springboard for even greater growth and development in the years to come.

President Akufo-Addo concluded his farewell address by wishing all Ghanaians a joyful and prosperous 2025. “May our homes be filled with laughter, our communities with unity, and our nation with prosperity,” he said. He urged everyone to step into the New Year with renewed hope in their hearts and determination in their steps. His message of unity, optimism, and resilience underscored his belief in the potential of Ghanaians to continue building a prosperous and peaceful nation.
