Okomfo Nana Baffour Gyau, a respected traditional priest and spiritual leader of the Asuo Pamoo Spiritual and Herbal Home in Abofrem, Atwima Nponua District, has voiced deep concerns over the recent surge in deaths and illnesses across the country. He attributes these misfortunes to the neglect of the nation’s traditional root gods, stressing that such oversight is having dire consequences.

According to Nana Baffour Gyau, the gods are growing displeased due to the lack of respect and the refusal to honor them properly. He emphasized that while people often call upon the gods in times of crisis, their reaction to the disrespect shown to them is likely to be unbearable. He believes this neglect has led to the rising number of deaths, illnesses, and other misfortunes, such as the recent fire outbreaks plaguing the nation.

In a passionate plea, Okomfo Nana Baffour Gyau urged President Mahama to designate a special day to honor the traditional gods, proposing the creation of “Rivers Day.” He explained that this day would be dedicated to acknowledging the spiritual entities that have long been revered by the people and their ancestors. The priest believes that neglecting these sacred practices has resulted in the increased suffering the nation is currently experiencing.

Nana Baffour Gyau elaborated that, throughout history, the local gods and ancestors worked tirelessly to protect the land and its people from dangers, diseases, accidents, and untimely deaths. This protection was guaranteed through the observance of sacred rituals, including the observance of specific days dedicated to honoring these spirits. He argued that the neglect of these customs has led to the current crisis, and that returning to these traditional practices could help restore balance and healing to the nation.
