Salah Pens New Two-Year Deal to Remain at Liverpool

Liverpool forward Mohamed Salah has signed a fresh two-year contract extension, officially putting to rest the widespread speculation over his future at Anfield. The Egyptian superstar, whose previous deal was due to expire this summer, will now remain with the Reds until 2027.
Salah, 32, had been at the centre of transfer rumours in recent months, with many linking him to a lucrative move to the Saudi Pro League. His own comments during the season added to the uncertainty, sparking fears among fans that his time in Merseyside might be coming to an end. However, those concerns have now been eased, as Liverpool confirmed that the talismanic winger will be staying put.
“I’m really excited,” Salah said after the announcement. “We’ve built a great team, and I believe we’re capable of achieving even more. I’ve had eight incredible years here, and I hope to make it ten. I love the club, I love the city, and I’m enjoying my football more than ever.”
Since joining Liverpool from AS Roma in 2017, Salah has become one of the club’s all-time greats. He has scored 243 goals and provided 109 assists in 394 matches, establishing himself as a key figure in Jurgen Klopp’s and now Arne Slot’s sides. This season alone, he has already netted 32 times across all competitions, with 27 of those goals coming in the Premier League as Liverpool close in on their 20th league title.
The new deal is seen as a major win for Liverpool’s new head coach Arne Slot, who had publicly expressed his desire for Salah to remain at the club. “He’s more than just a great player—he’s a leader, a professional, and someone the whole squad looks up to,” Slot said. “What makes Mo special is that he can influence a game even when he’s not at his best. His mental toughness, consistency, and hunger set him apart.”
Salah’s contract situation has been a major talking point throughout the season. As recently as September, he told Sky Sports that he believed it could be his final campaign at Anfield, citing a lack of communication regarding an extension. His frustration grew in the months that followed, with further public statements suggesting that talks were at a standstill.
Despite the uncertainty, Liverpool remained hopeful. The club rejected a £150 million bid from Saudi side Al-Ittihad in 2023, signaling their intent to keep hold of their prized asset. Saudi officials, including Sports Minister Prince Abdulaziz bin Turki Al-Faisal, openly expressed interest in bringing Salah to the Middle East, calling him “a huge prize.” But the player has ultimately chosen loyalty over a potentially record-breaking payday.
While financial details of the new contract have not been officially disclosed, it is believed that Salah’s salary remains among the highest at the club, with no significant pay reduction involved.
Salah’s commitment comes at a crucial moment for Liverpool, with fellow senior players Virgil van Dijk and Trent Alexander-Arnold also approaching the end of their contracts. Van Dijk is reportedly close to agreeing to a new two-year extension as well, while Alexander-Arnold is attracting strong interest from Real Madrid.
By securing Salah’s future, Liverpool not only retain one of the most prolific forwards in world football, but also help stabilize a squad that has undergone significant transition. The club is looking to avoid the contract uncertainty that overshadowed much of this season, as they aim to continue their dominance domestically and in Europe.
The announcement was marked by a striking social media post from Liverpool, featuring Salah seated on a throne on the Anfield pitch with the caption: “More in than out.” It was a fitting image for a player often dubbed the “Egyptian King”—a reminder that, at least for now, his reign in red is far from over.
