2004 Alumni enhance Yaa Asantewaa SHS entrance with legacy project

The 2004 alumni of Yaa Asantewaa Senior High School have successfully completed the first phase of their legacy project aimed at enhancing the school’s aesthetics. This phase involved the creation of a mini garden, a fresh coat of paint, and various beautification efforts at the school’s main entrance. The total cost of the project amounted to GHS 197,417, with funding provided through the collective contributions of the alumni members.

On Saturday, November 30, 2024, the first phase was officially commissioned and handed over to the school authorities as part of the alumni’s 20th-anniversary celebrations. During the event, Madam Honorata Nsomah Akanzinge, the Vice Chairperson of the Legacy Project Committee, explained that the decision to focus on improving the entrance was driven by the previous unappealing state of the area. She noted that upgrading the entrance was crucial not only for the aesthetic appeal of the school but also for restoring its pride and dignity.

In addition to the successful completion of the first phase, Madam Akanzinge also revealed plans for the second and third phases of the project. These future phases will involve the renovation of a large monument fountain near the entrance and the refurbishment of the administration block. “As former students, it is our duty to give back to our alma mater, as it is a way to show our gratitude for the academic and personal development we gained here,” she said. She emphasized that the professional and personal successes of the 2004-year group were directly attributed to the discipline, training, and values they received during their time at Yaa Asantewaa Senior High School.

Madam Akanzinge also appealed to individuals and corporate organizations to provide further support for the project, either through financial contributions or in-kind donations, to ensure the completion of the remaining phases. She highlighted that their contributions would have a lasting impact on the development and enhancement of the school for future generations.

The headmistress of Yaa Asantewaa SHS, Felicia Asamoah Danquah, expressed her deep gratitude to the alumni for their efforts, describing the project as surpassing expectations. “This contribution from the 2004-year group has transformed our entrance into one of the most remarkable in the Ashanti Region,” she noted, praising the alumni for their vision and generosity.

The project is also expected to inspire other alumni groups to take an active role in contributing to the continued development of their school. Through their efforts, the 2004-year group has not only improved the physical appearance of Yaa Asantewaa SHS but has also set a precedent for future alumni to support their alma mater in meaningful ways.

The legacy project reflects a deep sense of gratitude and responsibility toward the school, and its successful execution demonstrates the positive impact alumni can have on the institutions that shaped their lives. By enhancing the school’s environment, the 2004 alumni have created a lasting tribute to their own educational experiences while ensuring that future students will benefit from a more welcoming and inspiring campus.

The alumni’s actions also serve as a reminder of the important role that schools, and the communities that form around them, play in shaping the future of individuals. As the project progresses, it is clear that the 2004-year group’s efforts will continue to benefit the school for years to come, and their legacy will inspire further contributions from future generations of alumni.
