Climate Change is Impacting Lives, Says EPA Boss in Ashanti Region

Dr. Jackson Adiyiah Nyantakyi, the Ashanti Regional Director of the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), has stated that human actions have severely impacted the climate, and we are now facing the consequences of these changes. He highlighted that climate change is causing heavy rainfall, leading to property damage and loss of lives, while intense heat is also adversely affecting human well-being.
In an exclusive interview, Dr. Nyantakyi explained that climate change has brought about unpredictable weather patterns, including erratic rainfall, which has had a negative effect on farming. He stressed that the challenges brought on by climate change are significant, particularly the rising temperatures and unpredictable precipitation, which hinder agricultural productivity.
To mitigate these issues, Dr. Nyantakyi advised farmers to adopt Climate-Smart Agriculture techniques, incorporating sustainable practices that would help them adapt to changing environmental conditions. He also called on Ghanaians to plant more trees, as they help absorb carbon dioxide and improve air quality. Additionally, he urged citizens to avoid covering the ground with concrete, as this prevents water from infiltrating the soil, contributing to water runoff and erosion.
Dr. Nyantakyi further pleaded with people to stop purchasing waterlogged land and to allow natural water flow to prevent flooding. His remarks serve as a call to action for both individuals and communities to take responsibility in mitigating the effects of climate change and protecting the environment for future generations.
