Evangelical Presbyterian Church Offers Congratulations to John Mahama and the NDC on Presidential Victory

   The Evangelical Presbyterian Church, Ghana (EPCG), has extended heartfelt congratulations to His Excellency John Dramani Mahama and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) following their emphatic victory in the December 7, 2024, Presidential Election. In a press statement, the church also expressed its congratulations to all the NDC’s parliamentary candidates who successfully secured seats in Ghana’s Ninth Parliament of the Fourth Republic.

The church acknowledged the efforts of Vice President Alhaji Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), for his dignified and sincere acceptance of defeat. “We commend his maturity and graciousness in congratulating his main opponent, H.E. John Mahama, for emerging victorious as the President-elect. His swift and peaceful concession was instrumental in easing rising tensions and preventing potential unrest in various parts of the country,” the statement read.

The EPCG expressed deep appreciation to all the political actors, media outlets, local and international observer groups, diplomatic personnel, the National Peace Council, the National Commission for Civic Education (NCCE), security forces, and the Electoral Commission (EC) for their tireless efforts in ensuring a peaceful, transparent, and successful electoral process. The church emphasized that these collective efforts were essential in upholding the integrity of the democratic process and maintaining stability throughout the election.

In its statement, the EPCG called on all Ghanaians to set aside any differences based on political, tribal, or religious affiliations and unite in support of the newly elected leadership. “We urge the citizenry to demonstrate unity, affection, and patriotism as the country works towards its socio-economic development. It is important that all Ghanaians rally behind the incoming government to build the confidence of both citizens and potential investors, while preserving the nation’s long-standing values of peace and democracy,” the church added.

The full statement also expressed the church’s commitment to partnering with the new government in key areas such as education, health, social interventions, environmental advocacy, and religious intercession. The EPCG assured the incoming NDC government of its unwavering support in advancing these sectors for the greater good of the country.  “The Evangelical Presbyterian Church, Ghana assures the incoming government of our firm allegiance and partnership in areas of education, health, advocacy for social interventions, and addressing critical issues like environmental sustainability and climate change. We will also continue to provide religious intercession in accordance with our mission of ‘Bringing Light to where there is Darkness,'” the statement concluded.

The church’s congratulatory message reflects a deep sense of optimism for the future under the new administration and emphasizes the need for national unity during this transitional period. The EPCG highlighted the importance of supporting the new leadership in achieving Ghana’s socio-economic goals, which will contribute to the growth and stability of the nation.
