A group of about 30 individuals, claiming to be supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), recently disrupted the operations of the Bui Power Authority (BPA), demanding the immediate removal of all staff, from management to lower-level employees. The protesters argued that, with the change in government, all current employees should be replaced to make way for a new team that aligns with the current administration’s vision.

The protesters were adamant that the change of leadership should extend to every level within the BPA, from top management to junior staff. They insisted that their demand was non-negotiable and stated that no authority, not even the President, could prevent their actions. The group made it clear that their protest was a response to what they saw as longstanding issues within the authority, emphasizing that Ghana belongs to all its citizens, and they had the right to demand changes where necessary. They also warned that further actions would be taken if their demands were not addressed.

In a video shared on social media, one of the individuals, speaking on behalf of the group, accused the BPA staff of financial mismanagement, inefficiency, and nepotism. The spokesperson alleged that the directors had engaged in unnecessary travel, which wasted public funds, and claimed that a recent recruitment exercise was politically motivated. “For the past eight years, there has been no progress at the BPA. If anything, we should have seen tangible growth and development,” the spokesperson remarked, adding that these issues had to be addressed before any progress could be made.

The group also pointed to the recent appointment of a new Minister of Energy as a sign of change and argued that this was an opportunity for the government to overhaul the entire staff at the BPA. They demanded the removal of all employees, including even the security guards and receptionists, asserting that these individuals had been enjoying privileges while ordinary Ghanaians continued to face hardships. The protesters voiced their dissatisfaction with what they viewed as systemic inefficiencies within the authority and called for better management practices.

“We are tired of the situation at the BPA. Not even former President John Mahama will stop us from making this demand, because Ghana belongs to all of us,” the spokesperson declared. The group emphasized that their demand for change was about improving management and providing fair opportunities for everyone in the country. They made it clear that the current situation was untenable and needed to be addressed promptly.

The protesters’ actions were framed as a call for greater accountability and responsibility from the staff at the BPA. They stressed that, while they acknowledged the challenges faced by the country, the current leadership at the BPA was not doing enough to address these issues. Instead, they believed that the existing staff had become complacent and were failing to meet the expectations of the Ghanaian people.

The group ended their protest with a warning that stronger actions would follow if their concerns were not taken seriously. “If our demands are not met, next time, nobody will stop us,” the spokesperson concluded, signaling their determination to continue pushing for the changes they believed were necessary for the betterment of the country and its citizens.

The protest at the Bui Power Authority reflected a broader frustration with the perceived mismanagement and inefficiency within state institutions. The group’s demand for the removal of BPA staff, from junior employees to management, was part of a larger push for accountability and transparency in government institutions. Despite their strong stance, the protesters also emphasized that their actions were driven by a desire for a fairer and more equitable Ghana, where resources are managed more efficiently for the benefit of all citizens.
